 The Wireless Trends
At the end of 2002 it was not difficult to see that
wireless products, like the personal computer 20 years
ago and the Internet a decade ago, are becoming the
new computing platform. There was plenty of evidence to
illustrate this, such as the increasing development and
sales of wireless systems, including cell telephones,
handheld computers, laptops, enterprise systems, and
numerous others.
We at i2b Global saw the emergence of this new computing
platform as an essential step towards further application personalization and
true mobile application infrastructure. We have invested lots of efforts to stay on top
of the new wireless technologies in order to continue to provide full spectrum of IT
services to our clients.
Since then we have been involved in development of J2ME based
mobile applications, Windows CE.Net applications, and
highly innovative solutions build on BlueTooth
technology.
Most of the developers have been working with mobile
applications for last couple of years but the general public is just beginning
enjoying benefits of those applications with the proliferation of Java enabled
cell phones and PDA’s.
Below we provide simple mobile application that demonstrates
the power of the new computing platform.
Wine Guide Mobile Application.
The Wine Guide
is a MIDlet mobile application indented to be used on
Java enabled cell phones. The application provides
access to new wine releases available at LCBO stores.
The application consists actually of 2 separates
MIDlet’s called ‘LcboReds’ and ‘LcboWhites’ that provide
search capabilities for newly released red wines and
white wines respectively.
Downloading and Installing the Application.
The download of
the applications is supported by the OTA (Over The Air)
provisioning. You need to have GPRS services on your
cell phone in order to access the Internet. From your
Micro Browser on your cell phone point to this

Once the page is
opened a menu is presented with the application list.
Click the application name you want to download and then
follow the instructions to install the
application.
